Sunday School

In addition to our children and youth Sunday School classes, here at Albertville First United Methodist Church we have five wonderful adult Sunday School classes to choose from. There is something for everyone.
UPPER ROOM SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS
The Upper Room Sunday School Class recently merged with the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. This class is comprised of singles and couples with a wide range of ages. With four talented and dedicated teachers, our class studies a variety of subjects and scriptures. We are also dedicated to missions, to fellowship and fun and to the growth of First United Methodist Church.
GOOD NEWS CLASS
“He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the GOOD NEWS to all.” Mark 16:15. The purpose of the Good News Class is to share the love of Jesus through faith, friends, fellowship, and fun. You’ll always hear laughter coming through the double doors of our classroom on the second floor of the new building, starting at 10:00am every Sunday morning. We learn more about God’s love through our weekly Bible based discussions, led by Andy Finlay, Ben Shurett and Bob Grace. Our teachers pick interesting books written by Christian authors and lead our discussion based lessons.
We are a friendly group of single and married adults, middle age through retirement. Each month we donate to our church’s Helping Hands fund, and any other special scholarship or mission needs as they arise throughout the year. At Christmas we provide toys, clothes, and a Bible, for several children through the Christmas Coalition. You will find our class members active in all areas of our church. Good class. Good lessons. Good Bible Study. Good Friends. Good Teachers. Good Times.
CARL RICHEY CLASS
This class was organized in 1948 when Rev. W.D. Barnes was pastor. Carl Richey saw the need for a class for young adults both single and married and it was known as the young adult class with Barber Hooper Jr. as the first teacher. After a short time, Carl Richey became the teacher and in 1964 a proclamation named the class the Carl Richey Class – it is the oldest class in the church bearing its same name with some of the charter members still in attendance. Currently various members of the class take turns teaching one Sunday a month and occasionally people in other classes have been asked to teach.
The class has had many projects through the years striving to serve the local church and the community beyond. We have donated to underprivileged families, the church bereavement fund, the church building fund, the food pantry, the Senior Nutrition program, the Methodist Children’s Home, Christmas Coalition, helped purchase Sunday School literature, UMCOR and the Christian Scholarship Fund.
The class currently has 20 active members and 10 that are unable to attend. Please consider joining us!
